As the cold weather sets in and sweaters become essential, your makeup routine needs to up its game if you want all-day flawlessness. While winter is great for hot chocolates and watching movies on the couch, it can be disastrous for your makeup. From cold winds, heaters and torrential rainfall, winter is not a good time to be a beauty enthusiast, but our handy hints can help save your makeup from the harsh elements.
Prime every day: Basically, if you want your makeup to stay on for as long as possible, priming is a must! By giving your foundation a smooth, moisturised base, it will be able to set properly and stay in place longer, despite the harsh winter conditions. Some of our favourite primers include:
Benefit the Porefessional Primer — $53 from Myer.
Moisturise: This one isn’t actually makeup, but it will extend the wear of your foundation (and improve your skin quality at the same time). Moisturising is super important during winter because the cold winds, drying heaters and all-round miserable weather can be extremely drying on your skin, which makes your skin look and feel worse-for-wear, and will minimise the hold of your foundation. Here at CLIQUE Mag, we’re loving the KIEHL’S Ultra Face Cream ($69 from Myer)
Hydrate: Keeping your skin hydrated is the best primer for your skin. By drinking at least two litres of water every day, your skin will be more hydrated, making it softer, smoother and a better base for your foundation.
Choose waterproof wherever possible: Winter is the time to bust out the long-wearing foundations, waterproof mascaras and matte lipsticks, because let’s face it, the winter weather in Adelaide can get pretty harsh. Here at CLIQUE Mag, we love:
MAC Pro Longwear SPF10 Foundation – $54 from MAC Cosmetics.
Benefit BADgal Lash Waterproof Mascara – $38 from Myer.
Now that you know the secrets to winter-proofing your makeup, you can rock a fierce makeup look all day long, even when the weather is miserable.
