Set to explore the notion of wearable art as International luxury fashion house Viktor&Rolf showcase their spectacular avant-garde creations in an exhibition developed in collaboration with the National Gallery of Victoria.
Viktor&Rolf: Fashion Artists will feature some of the Dutch design duo’s most show stopping works. The exhibition will include over 35 haute couture pieces, alongside earlier designs from the Viktor&Rolf archive and international museum collections. A selection of their work-in-progress ‘Dolls’ will also be on display, featuring replicas of antique dolls dressed in miniature versions of the designers most iconic looks.
“Viktor&Rolf stretches the definition of both fashion and art,” says Tony Ellwood, Director, the National Gallery of Victoria.
“Their boundary-pushing designs challenge the way fashion is developed, presented and disseminated with masterful craftsmanship, intellectual rigour and an ironic sense of humour. This exhibition will be a rare opportunity to experience the unconventional creativity and technical brilliance of this innovative Dutch duo.”
To celebrate the world premiere of Viktor&Rolf: Fashion Artists, Viktor&Rolf designers Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren will appear in conversation with international guest curator Thierry-Maxime Loriot in a NGV public event on Friday, October 21 at NGV international. Tickets to Viktor&Rolf in Conversation includes entry to the Viktor&Rolf: Fashion Artists exhibition.
Viktor&Rolf: Fashion Artists will be held at NGV International from October 21 2016–February 26 2017. Tickets on sale via ngv.vic.gov.au.
