If that headline didn’t stir any emotions in you then it’s time to click away. On the other hand, if you’re a beauty devotee then you may have already heard; Urban Decay is discontinuing the Naked Palette.
Arguably the hype makeup item that started it all – before the beauty influencer movement really took off – the Naked Palette featured 12 wearable eyeshadow colours that revolutionised neutrals forever and could be used to create a variety of incredible makeup looks. It was introduced in 2010 and has taken off around the world, boasting over $1 billion in sales for the brand.
“A little bit naughty, often dramatic, and always in the press, the innovative game-changer and category creator will be laid to rest after 8 years,” read a statement on social media alongside a ‘Here for a good time, not a long time’ tile. The brand has also shared a fun clip of a funeral for the iconic eyeshadow palette, featuring a eulogy delivered by Nicole Ritchie, one of their brand ambassadors.
To soften the blow, we should tell you it’s only the original one that’s being taken away so you can still take your sweet time to get your hands on the Naked 2, Naked 3 and Naked Heat palettes – which this writer personally thinks are better choices anyway. But we should still take time out to say goodbye to the OG.
Urban Decay have put the final palettes on sale for 50% on some of their international sites. It’s currently unavailable on the Mecca website but if you’re desperate, pop in to your nearest Mecca Maxima to see if you can grab one last piece of beauty history before it’s all gone.
