The Top 7 close to home destinations to get to before 2018

Can you believe it’s already the third week of November? If you’re anything like us, you’re wondering where this year’s gone and how you kept putting off all those grand plans you had – especially when it comes to going on holiday. There are a lot of reasons why people keep delaying their plans: the thought of the busy festive season, not enough annual leave, or even just finding it too difficult to organise a holiday themselves. Luckily, we’re here to help you.

Can we remind you that we’re surrounded by Pacific Islands, exotic Asia and even the far North of our very own beautiful home, so why not surprise yourself and get on a plane later this week for a short, sharp getaway and get some much needed R & R?

We sat down to chat with the travel experts at Peregrine Travel Centre SA and we’ve picked out some of the destinations that you can easily get to before the end of the year.

New Zealand

This one’s a no-brainer. Our next door neighbours and probably one of the most picturesque places on Earth, New Zealand is the easiest place to get to and you can still say you “went overseas”. It’s great all year round and especially now as we approach Summer, there’s literally something for everyone – whether you’re the ultimate adventure seeker or even if you just want to sit back and relax. Auckland, Queenstown, Wellington – get a car and drive it for a few days.

Oh, and not to mention Air New Zealand’s Dreamliner is now flying direct out of Adelaide three times a week so there’s always some kind of bargain flight to pick up – and quietly, it’s pretty cheap for a standard flight anyway.

Vietnam

Okay, so we all know Vietnamese food is the BEST food right? Now imagine a truly authentic experience where you’re eating on the side of the road while the bustling traffic of Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City zoom past. Yep, sounds pretty good to us. If you’ve got 12 days to spare before the end of the year, this tour will take you on a culinary journey you’ll never forget. A food holiday – how can you say no to that?

Hamilton Island

For everyone who just wants to lie on a beach and enjoy the sun, see you in Hamilton Island. It’s long been one of Australia’s iconic and ideal locations to just indulge yourself. Maybe you’ve had a long year and just need to recuperate, it’s time to grab your straw hat and head North. A lot of people think it’s just good for couples but it’s family friendly destination and also good for a group of your best girlfriends. We didn’t know this but you can also fly directly into the island according to our friends from Peregrine Travel Centre SA.

Singapore

This bustling mecca of food, fashion and bright lights has got to be one of our favourite places on Earth. It’s always warm, there’s always something to do and the city is incredibly alive. For those who want a short holiday but still want some liveliness, Singapore offers everything you need. Whether you want to go all out and get that photo on top of the Marina Bay Sands or if you just want to know the ins and outs of the Singaporean streets, Peregrine can definitely help you out with fun activities and day trips tailored to your needs.

Cambodia

Cambodia is a country of incredible history – both beautiful and extremely sad – and there is so much to see. If you’re looking at a country in Asia to visit where it remains relatively untouched, this is a great option that can be done in a week or two. If you’re between the ages of 18-29, you’re in luck because this Geckos Essentials tour gives you a taste of everything from the secluded beaches in Sihanoukville to city life in Phnom Penh.

Uluru and Kakadu

A lot of travellers have seen the world but forget the beauty in our own back yard. Australia has so much natural beauty and fascinating landscapes to explore, especially in our iconic Red Centre and Kakadu National Park. Get to know our incredibly rich and long history in the Arnhem Land and familiarise yourself with some bloody beautiful national parks. It seems like a long way to travel but it’s not hard when there is a seven day Uluru to Kakadu and Arnhem Land tour that will show you all the above and more.

Fiji

So tropical, and previously so hard to get to but did you know that Fiji Airways is now flying out of Adelaide twice a week? You are one single 7-hour plane trip away from white sands, clear waters and that island life you find yourself daydreaming about at 3.30pm on a Wednesday. Imagine yourself putting your feet up and sipping that cocktail that was shaken especially for you – probably in a bar by the pool or the beach. Yep, that’s the life.
