The newest addition to community environment space, The Joinery is The Depot Collective Cafe. This eco-friendly café is right in the heart of the CBD and uses only fresh, local and seasonal ingredients – some straight from the community garden out the back! Each day they mix it up by making two different salads using seasonal products and Australian beans and grains. When we popped by they were serving up a half ‘n’ half of sweet potato and purple cabbage with lemon, house-made chilli oil and fresh mint as well as their ‘super-fresh’ cucumber salad with fresh basil and mint topped with crushed almonds. They draw their inspiration from simple and delicious flavours, utilising produce that’s in season, as that’s when it tastes best. On a warm day, opt for one of their salads with a nice hunk of fresh sourdough along with an iced latte or locally made stubby of kombucha. Maybe even get The Depot to whip up some catering platters for your next function, or better yet host your function at The Depot! We can’t wait to see the colours flourish in the kitchen and garden during The Depot’s first summer on the corner of Franklin St.
