It’s been called the Oscars of the east coast, the party of the year and the biggest day of the year for the fashion crowd. Happy Met Gala Day! It is (no lie) one of our favourite days of the year and we’re so happy that it’s the first Monday in May. This year’s theme is based around Rei Kawakubo and Comme Des Garcons – the first time Costume Institute has focused on a living designer since Yves Saint Laurent in 1983. While the exhibition Rei Kawakubo/Comme Des Garcon: Art of the In-Between doesn’t officially opens on May 4, we’re just excited to see what the red carpet will bring.
See a curation of some of the best as well as the more interesting looks from this morning’s scroll through Instagram.
Unsurprisingly, Riri arrives on the scene and steals the show in a unique look while also dressing to the theme in Comme Des Garcons.
In tonight’s instalment of beautiful couples to hit the red carpet, Selena Gomez makes her official public appearance with The Weeknd while wearing a simple yet effective custom made gown by Coach.
Gigi Hadid returns to the Met Gala with another Tommy Hilfiger look, a little less conservative than last year’s and a bit edgier in design – vintage Kim Basinger vibes with an Angelina Jolie leg.
Another winner in tonight’s ‘nailing the theme’: Katy Perry head to toe in Maison Margiela Artisanal and giving off some real red wedding, gothic vibes. Rei Kawakubo would be proud.
Dakota Johnson looking incredible and super dramatic in a custom Gucci look designed by Alessandro Michele.
Just before walking the carpet at tonight’s #MetGala, #DakotaJohnson in a #Gucci custom black silk moiré gown featuring duchesse satin straps and 3D flowers with a full pleated taffeta and duchesse satin ruffle skirt, and a black lurex and silk jacquard evening clutch. #AlessandroMichele #MetKawakubo @metcostumeinstitute
Our gal Hailey Baldwin looking like a princess in Caroline Herrera. We’re particularly digging the crystal head piece.
Yes, yes and yes to Stella Maxwell in custom H&M.
Say what you want about the gal but she is one of the most influential teenagers in the world, and Kylie Jenner looks pretty great in Versace. Also, sporting some new blonde locks at the request of Donatella herself.
Lily Aldridge taking a classic white Ralph Lauren gown and changing it up with one of Demna Gvasalia‘s Balenciaga creations – the sock boot – creating one of the most unique looks of the night.
Alexander Wang looks on as Bella Hadid wears his custom made, crystal embroidered pantsuit.
Oh hello, Chrissy Teigen making a statement in Marchesa.
Another Versace creation to hit the red carpet on one half of the world’s most beautiful couple, Blake Lively. Definitely giving off glam Rio vibes.
The always interesting Jaden Smith looking sleek in Louis Vuitton… but also carrying his newly shaved dreadlocks as accessories. Okay.
And in possibly the best overall look for the night, taking in account outfit, hair and makeup: Zendaya looking straight fire in Dolce & Gabbana (and parrots).
