Levi’s Presents is 5-week program of free music from up and coming local acts every fortnight at the Rundle Mall store. Levi’s have always supported and nurtured up and coming musical talent, most recently with the launch of The Levi’s Music Prize, the biggest music prize in Australian history, helping emerging Australian artists to get a leg up on the local and international stage.
Rundle Mall favourite, the Levi’s Presents Series is back tonight and Adelaide three piece, Cosmo Thundercat are the ones to watch this fortnight. They have had a huge couple of years, supporting the likes of Augie March, Thirsty Merc and Husky in the midst of working on new material and preparing for more gigs. The interstellar alt-dreamy-garage-folk-pop-rock band have a knack for bringing in the night with a bang and we caught up with Anthony, Sam and David for a chat before their gig tonight.
What are you most looking forward to about the Levi’s Presents gig this Friday night?
We love denim, and share a common love for jeans. Sounds like a good vibe!
Cosmo Thundercat sounds very interstellar, I love it, how did you come up with the name?
Once upon a time there were three men called Anthony, Sammy and David. They decided to get together because they were the getting together type. When they were together they wondered what for after all, what for? So all of a sudden they grew guitars and drums and fashioned a noise.
Many people ask ‘who is Cosmo Thundercat? Why Cosmo Thundercat? Ugh, Cosmo Thundercat, how did the name arrive?’ So we will tell you. It came from a great friend in a vision – a man appeared on a flaming pie and said unto them ‘From this day on you are Cosmo Thundercat’.
Thank you, mister man, they said, thanking him.
You guys supported some pretty big names like, Augie March, Thirsty Merc and Husky to name a few, what was that like?
It was such an honour. All of these bands are amazing song writers and to share a stage with them was incendiary.
How would you describe your sound?
Alt-dreamy-garage-folk-pop-rock, and everything in between.
What can people expect from your live set?
Do you have any other exciting plans coming up?
We are bunkering down in the studio incredibly soon. New material is on the way, and so are come exciting gigs. We play a show with Gomez next week, 27th March.
Cosmo Thundercat are playing live tonight, Friday March 23 at Levi’s, 76 Rundle Mall, Adelaide.
