Levi’s Presents is 5-week program of free music from up and coming local acts every fortnight at the Rundle Mall store. Levi’s have always supported and nurtured up and coming musical talent, most recently with the launch of The Levi’s Music Prize, the biggest music prize in Australian history, helping emerging Australian artists to get a leg up on the local and international stage.
The long weekend is finally here, and we have the perfect thing to start it off on a high. Adelaide-born three-piece, Contract Love are setting up camp at Rundle Mall’s Levi’s store for a high-energy live performance. Their sound is a mix between alt rock, punk and pop, and we can tell you for sure that they know how to get the party started. We caught up with the guys behind Contract Love for a chat.
What are you most looking forward to most for your upcoming gig which is part of the Levi’s Presents this Friday?
We’re really looking forward to the high traffic of people that will be coming through the mall and are really excited to meet all these new people.
How did you guys first form Contract Love?
Thai had a class in high school in which he had to record music. We were already pretty good friends so we got together and performed some covers to record. We started writing original stuff not long after.
Where did the name come from?
We were originally called Odessa but due to it being close to the duo Odesza we had to change. We were throwing around a lot of names and came up with Contract Love which we liked the sound of and the irony behind the fact that if a contract is involved it isn’t really love is it?
How would you describe your sound?
We’re a bit of everything really, we try to mix it up wit each song and vary our sound up. But if we had to define it we would probably be a mix between alt rock, punk, and pop.
Who are your biggest musical influences?
Each of us have pretty similar music tastes but at the same time listen to a lot of unique bands and artists the others don’t which helps broaden our music style. Some of our main influences are Daughter, Bon Iver, Muse, and even artists like FKA Twigs and Willow Smith.
What’s next for you guys?
We have one more show in the next month and then we plan on bunkering down and recording our debut EP which fingers crossed will be out later this year. If you want updates on that like our Facebook page.
Contract Love are playing live tonight, Friday March 9 at Levi’s, 76 Rundle Mall, Adelaide.
