How To Enter Fashion At The Races

Fashion at The Races competition

Fourteen Fashion At The Races finalist spots have already been filled, but there’s still one remaining qualifying spot up for grabs on Schweppes Oaks Day on May 7 at Morphettville Racecourse.

Who wouldn’t want to take out the top prize of a 10-day tour around Hong Kong, Shanghai and Macau filled with sightseeing, shopping and of course horse racing with a private box at the Sha Tin racecourse at the Hong Kong International.

Even the runner-up will be rewarded with a shopping experience at Adelaide’s BNKR Rundle Mall store which includes $2000 to spend and a styling session.

So with only one more chance to get your spot in the finals on Oaks Day, we’ve put together our top tips.

1. Don’t forget it’s all about dressing appropriately for the specific event  – on Oaks Day it’s time to pull out your most feminine look, think: floral, lace and pastels.

2. Confidence is key. Make sure personality shines through your outfit.

3. It’s all about how you accessorise your Race Day dress. A fascinator or headpiece is an essential – on Oaks Day opt for a more delicate piece, maybe with soft netting, a bow or flowers. Don;t forget to think out your bag, shoes and jewellery too.

4. Most importantly, you have to be in it to win it. Registrations are now open online or you can also register on the day at Morphettville between 11.30–12.30.

Our own Charlotte Chambers, who will be judging on the day, says she’ll be looking for originality along with continuity in accessories.

“I’ll be keeping my eye out for confidence – their outfit must match their personality,” Charlotte says.
