Arguably the most delicious part of ‘Mad March’, Cellar Door Fest returns to the Adelaide Convention Centre, 15 – 17 March.
Dubbed Adelaide’s favourite food, wine, beer and spirits festival, this annual event (now in its ninth year), is a must-attend on any food / wine / beer / spirit lover’s calendar! Think 150 producers from 17 South Australian regions all under one roof at the heart of the City. It all equates to three days of delicious fun!
With this year’s event quickly approaching, we’ve collated a quick guide to some of our picks for Cellar Door Fest 2019. There’s of course, plenty more – head over to www.cellardoorfestival.com to view the full program and grab your tickets!
All the excitement of Cellar Door Fest 2019 kicks off on Friday, 15 March with doors opening at 5pm. Looking for the ultimate way to kick off your Festival experience and celebrate the end of the work week? The team at Cellar Door Fest has you covered offering a special ‘Friday Night Knock Offs’ package which represents great value at just $60, including admission for two plus a bottle of wine.
LAID BACK LONG TABLE DINING
The foodies amongst us won’t be able to look past the Festival’s two long table dining experiences, which offer a wonderfully laid back atmosphere in which to dine with friends.
On Friday (15 March), Barossa favourite Jacob’s Creek will present an exquisite three-course meal prepared by their Head Chef Nik Tucker and featuring the best of local produce. Think dishes such as smoked hiramasa kingfish; slow roasted Eden Valley pork; and a decadent SA cheese plate. Hosted by Ben Thoman (Jacob’s Creek Red Winemaker), each course will be expertly matched with the winery’s Limited Release Range and exclusive Cellar Door Wines.
If a long, late lunch is more your style, Saturday’s festivities (16 March) will be highlighted by the NOLA Long Table Lunch, which will see the popular East End beer and whisky haunt team up with Woodside Cheese Wrights and Little Bang Brewing. Focusing on Creole and Cajun soul cuisine, the three-course menu will be paired with Little Bang Brews and finish with a Woodside Cheese Wrights cheese plate. As they say in New Orleans, Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler! (or ‘Let the good times roll!’)
MAGNIFICENT MASTER CLASSES
Cellar Door Fest’s range of immersive experiences are always crowd favourites, and this year’s offering is no exception. Love gin? Cellar Door Fest has you covered with an exclusive ‘Gin Blending’ workshop. Is sparkling wine more your style? Rest assured, you’re covered too!
On Saturday (16 March), Settlers Spirits’ owner and head distiller, Rowland Short will host an interactive lesson in blending your own gin. Learn all about the different tastes, flavours and combinations of the 12 different botanicals used by Settlers Spirits while creating your own unique gin recipe. The best part? You’ll get to leave with a 200ml bottle of your best creation!
Saturday’s program also includes a truly luxurious ‘Cheese + Sparkling’ master class presented by DAOSA sparkling and Terre à Terre wines owner and winemaker, Xavier Bizot joined by Woodside Cheese Wrights’ Kris Lloyd. In this interactive one-hour session, Xavier and Kris will guide you through a handpicked selection of Adelaide Hills’ sparkling wines paired with limited edition cheeses from Woodside Cheese Wrights.
In addition to the above and opportunity to ‘meet, taste and discover’ produce from more than 150 South Australian producers, this year’s Fest will also feature free cooking demos in Jessie’s Kitchen, hosted by the talented Chef Jessie Spiby of Plant 4, Bowden’s ‘My Grandma Ben’. If you walk a little further into the Festival, you’ll find the Wintulichs Beer Garden and ‘Dude Food’ stage where you’ll receive free lessons in grilling, smoking and searing everything from burgers to tacos, hot dogs and steaks.
