Gilles at the Grounds: The Fashion Edit

Once a month, Adelaide’s local artisans, makers and market vendors converge in the Old Brick Dairy at the Wayville Showgrounds for Gilles at the Grounds. In keeping with Adelaide’s month of fashion, the October edition will feature unique designs from over 100 local creatives as Gilles presents The Fashion Edit.

Naducaa

Naducaa is a local accessory designer specialising in luxury head wraps. Priding itself in designing garments free of gender restrictions, owner and designer, Nadia Mahmoud, will debut her head wrap collection at this week’s market before launching an online store in the coming weeks.

MATERIALISM

When STORRE halted mass production in 2006, the label rebranded as MATERIALISM to focus on one-off, custom pieces designed by aerosol and tattoo artists. 2015 saw the return of screen printed tees and the collection quickly grew to become a popular streetwear brand. Now transitionary into a luxury label, MATERIALISM is a must-visit of this weekend’s Gilles.

Goods Gathered

Working to the ethos of ‘Vintage Goods, Gathered With Love’, Goods Gathered is Dannii O’Donnell’s attempt to rectify the on-going sustainability issues plaguing the fashion industry. The online store offers easy access to vintage clothing at an incredibly affordable price tag, be sure to visit her stall this market season for some seriously cool (and sustainable) threads.

Solomon Street

Priding itself on its sustainable and ethical practices, including the use of zero-waste, compostable packaging, Solomon Street is the work of local designer, Lauren Crago. This year has seen the addition of sportwear and headscarves to the label’s ever-evolving collection, which champions original coloured pencil illustrations. The current range is adorned by ultra-cute grapefruit, fig and apricot prints.

RE-SWIM CLUB

Natalie Ivanov founded RE-SWIM CLUB after working as a manufacturer and seeing the waste involved in everyday cut and sew. The swimwear brand is proudly sustainable and ethically made, with designers utilising materials that would otherwise go to landfill. RE-SWIM sources off-cuts, remnants, designer surplus and recycled materials to hand cut and sew into gorgeous swimwear pieces.
