CLIQUE Picks: Spring Carnival Millinery

It’s a big time of year in Adelaide, after the excitement of the Adelaide Fashion Festival it’s time to herald in the fun, fashionable and downright fabulous time of year: Spring Racing. The perfect day out and the perfect excuse to pull out a decadent piece of millinery, the Spring Carnival certainly is the time of year where the blossoming weather meets champagne, canapés and trackside fun.

Millinery for the races is an integral part of putting together an ensemble that adheres to the age-old aesthetic of trackside fashion. Yet, nowadays, we are blessed with a plethora of more contemporary designers and modern interpretations of what race wear and headwear should encompass. For the minimalist, a simple headband or hairclip can often suffice when styled the right way. For the more is more type, carefully architected hats and fascinators sit elegantly atop one’s head, making for a grand statement themselves.

If you haven’t already noticed (but we’re almost certain you have), South Australia is a hot-bed for designers and artists reimagining classic silhouettes while still producing classic pieces that will last a lifetime. We’ve found the best Australian designers to shop your Spring Carnival millinery for just in time for Derby Day at Morphettville this November 4 and Melbourne Cup day on November 7. Whether you are trackside for a punt or simply there to soak up the atmosphere of a day out, there really is nothing like a day at the races.
