Oh my lordy me, what a weekend it was for Coachella. The iconic festival dished up more delicious treats than our poor senses could handle while we sat at home in our PJs glued to the livestreams and jealously scrolling Instagram feeds of the lucky punters who managed to score tickets.
Beyonce absolutely shattered the internet with her headline performance – the show of the decade forever branding the 19th instalment of the festival as #BEYchella. Meanwhile, Eminem closed out day three with Slim Shady classics, a very pregnant Cardi B turned up that desert heat, and a kid yodelled. Then there were the star studded guest appearances and the glorious, as well as the bizarre, fashion choices. What a festival, and just think, there is still another weekend to go.
Read on for some of the highlights of Coachella 2018 Weekend One.
Australia makes festival history
Australia wasn’t lost among the oodles of talent showcased at this year’s Coachella with four acts represented on the festival bill. Sydney DJ and producer Alison Wonderland wrote herself into the festival’s history books as Coachella’s highest-billed female DJ in its 19-year history. With an epic set on day one, Alison Wonderland pulled a massive crowd of more than 20,000 people. And her dad was front and centre. Bless.

Fan favourites Vance Joy and Tash Sultana also pulled big numbers with their gorgeous stripped back sets, and Melbourne indie rockers Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever graced American soil for the first time with their set.
Nicki Minaj and Shania Twain?!
In the greatest (and probably strangest) buddy pairing, Nicki Minaj and Shania Twain were seen hanging out at this year’s festivities. Could we see a collab in the future? Fingers crossed. Also nearby were The Weeknd, Nav, French Montana and 2018’s Oscar golden boy, Timothée Chalamet.

Mason Ramsey, aka the ‘Walmart Yodelling Kid’, cashed in on his viral internet fame with his Coachella debut. DJ Whethan made the meme reality inviting Ramsey to the stage for a solo performance that left the crowd shook. Ramsey also made a guest appearance along Justin Bieber.
Cardi B’s pregnant performance
Heavily pregnant, rap queen Cardi B wasn’t missing her chance to take the Coachella stage bringing with her every guest off her debut album including G-Eazy, Kehlani and Chance the Rapper. She even twerked up a storm with her baby bump exclaiming, “And that’s how I got pregnant, y’all, just like that!”
Beyonce. Beyonce. Beyonce.
How do you even begin to sum up such a monumental performance? After cancelling her Coachella performance last year due to pregnancy, expectations were high for this year’s mega set. The two-hour spectacle saw Beyonce become the first ever woman of colour to headline Coachella and Bey celebrated appropriately with the Black National Anthem, Lift Every Voice and Sing. Performing her set with a 200-person marching band, multiple outfit changes and hits galore, Beyonce even managed a duet with her husband Jay-Z, a dance off with sister Solange (which was a throwback to Solange’s 2014 Coachella set when big sis joined younger sis for a Losing You boogie) and a mother-effing Destiny’s Child reunion.
Of course we weren’t the only ones hyperventilating, Rihanna was front row and centre and Adele shared videos of herself at home absolutely losing it.
Leo’s famous disguises
Leonardo DiCaprio strikes again as the Master of Disguise (embarrassed by the age-gap to a certain model by your side, Leo?) this time keeping under the radar with his typical baseball cap and a pair of movie theatre 3D glasses. Last year, Leo went incognito with Orlando Bloom in a pair of baggy hoodies.
Space buns, bum bags and tiny futuristic sunglasses are in.
The fashion of Coachella is always a highlight.
Eminem caters with crowd favs
Eminem closed weekend one with an expected line up of all his electric hits and the crowd ate up the moment he brought Dr Dre to perform Forget About Dre. Even more literally, the crowd ate up the Mom’s Spaghetti themed food truck which is the most ingenious merch ever imagined.
