Countless industry awards, one of Adelaide’s best salons and multiple fashion weeks – we chat to the man behind some of Adelaide’s best locks, Jason Fassbender.
As one of the creative directors at Parlour Hair Unley, he’s known for his ‘enhanced natural’ styles, where by working with your hair’s texture, your cut will looks just as great natural as it does when styled.
You may recognise his work from the runways or editorial shoots – including his latest work NEOTERIC.
Jason explains how he was inspired by the modern and forward thinking woman, as without these women he’d have no muse.
“NEOTERIC is my vision for forward thinking woman. Individual hair for individual women,” Jason says. “Every woman is as unique as the next, subscription to one hair ‘trend’ is not something I believe in.”
We chat to Jason further about NEOTERIC and hair trends.
Where did you look for inspiration when planning for NEOTERIC?
As hairdressers we are interpreters of fashion, we create the looks that compliment what’s going on in fashion so the runways are always my first stop when seeking inspiration for a collection.
What’s your favourite part of putting together a hair shoot?
For me, I love the planning and research phase of a shoot, gathering inspiration and piecing together your vision is always a very exciting process.
What’s trending in hair at the moment?
The shag, I’m obsessed with this cut. Girls have been wearing their hair solid for quite a while now so it’s really beautiful to see some serious layering making a comeback.
What hair trend would you love to see come in or make a comeback?
Cut wise, I would love to see more girls embracing the idea of a softer, modernised version of the mullet. I know that word strikes fear into the heart of many but cut to the right proportion it really is a very flattering, beautiful shape. As much as I love great balayage (emphasis on GREAT!), I would love to see the return of some more creative colour placement.
