BALI: Where to eat, drink, shop and play

With cheap flights on offer all year round, warm weather and affordable five star treatments – it’s the perfect place for a group of friends or a romantic getaway.

Bali is literally a one-stop shop for all things food, fashion and relaxation. If you love hot and humid temperatures, delicious delicacies, cocktails poolside, golden-lit sunsets and incredible shopping, this holiday destination is definitely for you.

Days are spent chilling by the pool, tanning, shopping, eating and being pampered for next to nothing. We would highly recommend the 4 hour day spa treatment at Sicilia’s (Kuta).

For just AUD$35, you receive a full body scrub, 1 hour massage, milk bath, facial and hair masque – it is absolute heaven and would have to be the best hangover cure. Climbing of Mount Batur (Ubud), an active volcano, is also a must-do. Be prepared for an early wakeup call if you want to catch the sunrise, it’s totally worth it. Another highlight for a more cultural experience is the Paon Bali cooking class (Ubud).

As opposed to only eating the food, try learning to cook traditional Balinese meals from scratch. A trip to Bali wouldn’t be complete without a spree at the markets. Located throughout all of Bali, you are sure to find yourself a bargain, from clothes, accessories, shoes, leather goods to obscure wooden souvenirs.

But, don’t forget to put your bartering skills to practice; you will be amazed at how willing they are to drop prices. If you allow enough time, try and get yourself over to Gilli Trawangan (Gili T) Island, it is possibly one of the most incredible places. You quickly adapt to the islander lifestyle, due to the fact that there are no forms of motorised transport.

The only way to get around is by foot, bicycle or in horse and carriage. Don’t go past the Sama Sama Bar, where you can sip on a cocktail whilst watching the Bob Marley’s of Indonesia jam away, catch a film at the beachside moonlight cinema or take a day trip to Le Pirate Beach Club. For something a little more adventurous, chuck on some flippers and a snorkel and go for a swim in the crystal clear water to spot some Nemos.

Try hold off until after 11am, any time before then the jellyfish are still awake and not afraid to give you a little nip…yes, we learnt the hard way.
