What can we say, we love smashed avocado… so much so that it has become a staple item on any good brunch menu. So here’s your guide to Adelaide’s best!
THE LOOSE CABOOSE
Nestled inside the Bowden Railway Station is one of our all-time favourite brunch spots, with an all day menu that veers away from the norm. In that spirit, The Loose Caboose has taken a completely different approach to the humble smashed avocado, bringing together watermelon radish, sundried tomato and coriander pesto, feta, lemon, and a panko crusted poached egg. It’s a must try.

ARGO ON THE PARADE
Serving up A-grade coffee, and with a monster menu that caters to everyone from the health-conscious to the burger-lover, you could say Argo has developed a cult following. But there’s still no going past their smashed avocado… served on organic rye with lemon, basil, mint and Danish fetta, and topped with cherry tomatoes, pepitas and Egyptian dukka. And you can always add a poached egg to get that protein fix!

Melbourne Street eatery, UR Caffé has recently undergone a renovation and refit. They’re still serving up their quality coffee and Thai-influenced menu – including their must-try ‘Avo Pom’ of two poached eggs, smashed avocado, pomegranate, cherry tomato, shaved radish and crumbled feta on sourdough. Just the right amount of sweet and zesty!

Just out of the city is this cosy little café, which has fast-become a neighbourhood destination for ethical coffee and wholesome eats. The team at Mister Sunshine’s have taken more of a homestyle approach to the brunch classic, dishing up smashed avocado on toasted rye with feta, warm toasted seeds and almonds. So take a walk on the west side, and get treated to a hearty meal and some good old-fashioned hospitality.

THE PANTRY ON EGMONT
Tucked away in the backstreets of Hawthorn is this hidden gem, with a rockin’ retro interior and a menu that features all of our brunch favourites. We guarantee you’ll keep coming back for their smashed avocado, which incorporates grilled haloumi and tomato chutney, and is served with poached eggs and sourdough toast. Grilled haloumi… c’mon.

The team at Bar 9 describe their digs as a “grassroots espresso bar,” but as we’ve realised, with great coffee often comes great food. And this is no exception.
So get your hands on their avocado with Persian feta, chilli oil, coriander and fresh lime, served up on toasted ciabatta. There’s no doubt your smashed avocado cravings will be satisfied… and with a zesty twist.
