It was hairdressing’s night of nights and some of the biggest names in the industry gathered in Sydney to see who would take out the big prizes. And quite a few of our own made their mark at the 2018 Hair Expo Awards over the weekend.
Adelaide hair veteran, Sam James from Orbe North Adelaide was named SA/Tas Hairdresser of the Year for her collection after going up some other seriously talented homegrown talent. While Kinky Curly Straight‘s Uros Mikic took out Men’s Hairdresser of the Year, impressively for the third year in a row.
“I’m very overwhelmed but it was very special to have Jayne Wild, one of my inspirational idols, present me with this award,” Sam says. “And amazing that the Hair Expo Awards are more about what we give back to the industry rather than just our photography – it’s about the whole package, and I love that.”
Colour Cosmetica‘s Nicholas Tragos also took home the award for Apprentice of the Year so we know our state’s hairdressing future is pretty bright as well.
Victorian celebrity stylist Joey Scandizzo was named Australian Hairdresser of the Year, taking over the title from South Australia’s own Jason Fassbender of Parlour Hair Unley.
