A Guide To Sweat-proof Makeup

Nothing quite says summer like relaxing strolls along the beach, barbecues by the pool and copious amounts of refreshing cocktails. But with the change of season, also comes our biggest beauty woes because the summer heat means we can start to say bye-bye to our makeup by midday (due to profusely sweating).

Luckily for you, we’ve pieced together a no-fuss survival guide to sweat-proof makeup that won’t budge in the sweltering heat (or that intense 9am spin class). Now, you can enjoy all the frills and spills of the glorious summer sunshine without worrying about the dreaded makeup melt.

Step 1: Prep and prime

Protect the skin on your face, neck and décolletage from the harsh Aussie sun with a high SPF, broad-spectrum sunscreen. Then, prep your skin with an oil-free primer to keep your natural oils and sweat away all day.

Tip: Concentrate a small amount of primer along your T-zone to prevent shine where it typically occurs most.

Available in-store at Mecca Cosmetica or online.

Step 2: Create a long-wear yet light base

Achieve a natural base with some coverage by using a lightweight BB cream that will hydrate your skin and cover any pesky blemishes.

Tip: Apply your base with a brush in a criss-cross motion to prevent your makeup from looking streaky if sweat happens to break through.

Available in-store at David Jones or online.

Step 3: Waterproof your lashes and brows

Add some definition to your lashes (and keep it from running down your face) with a black waterproof mascara. Shape the brows and keep your arches on point using a waxy brow pencil (wax-based products boast some serious staying power).

Tip: Use a clear setting gel on the brows to really keep those babies in place.

Available in-store at Priceline or online.

Step 4: Add that glow

Create a fresh and youthful bronzed glow with a cream bronzer. Embrace the dewy look by blending a small dot of cream highlighter to the top of the cheekbones as well.

Tip: Apply your bronzer to the places the sun would naturally hit by placing the product on the sides of your face in the shape of a ‘3’.

Step 5: Set your makeup in place

Last but not least, spritz a makeup setting spray all over your face as the final step to lock everything in place and keep your makeup melt-free all day.

Tip: Carry your setting spray with you to refresh your makeup throughout the day.
