The festive season is well and truly upon us, and with Adelaide’s notoriously warm Christmas period it can be hard to embrace the full magic of snow laden pines and ugly sweaters. Luckily, this Christmas an installation of twelve window displays is injecting festive cheer into Adelaide’s CBD. The windows, each showcasing a South Australian story, culminate to tell a Rundle Mall adaptation of the classic carol, 12 Days of Christmas.
The first window houses Christmas messages from prominent personalities and community champions including Phil Cummings, Teresa Palmer and South Australian Premier, Hon Steven Marshall, and is illustrated by Doris Chang of Little Sister Co.
Peak through window number two for a celebration of human spirit. In association with Buy a Bale, the window’s contents is made from wool sourced from Gawler’s Bennet & Gregor. Visitors are encouraged to support the nation’s hardworking farmers.
‘Tis the season to celebrate: window three provides all your festive season styling inspiration. Designed by LENZO, look through the star cut-out to uncover a secret nod to a South Australian treasure.
The fourth window poses an opportunity for you to win a $1,000 shopping voucher. Simply guess the number of shining green, red and gold baubles inside, post your guess via @rundlemall, and be sure to hashtag #RMBaubles for your chance to win.
Give the gift of giving this Christmas at window five. Drop a coin into the slot to help Backpacks 4 SA Kids continue to contribute to the care, safety and wellbeing of South Australian children.
Get inspired for a creative Christmas with personal tributes to gift giving from local creatives at window six. Artists include Tiff Manuell, Gavin Wanganeen, Eliza Piro, Julie White and Meaghan Williams.
We can’t think of anyone better to capture the whimsy and magic of Christmas than the designer of window seven, Paul Vasileff of Paolo Sebastian. Renowned for his romantic runways, Paul exhibits his signature ethereal designs complete with intricate hand-sewn snowflakes, floral motifs and delicate crystal embellishments.
Sing along to all of your favourite Christmas carols at window number eight as choirs from across the state bring joy and festivity to the mall. Don’t miss a live performance by the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra on December 7 from 5.45pm.
Curators of South Australian designers, makers and artists, JamFactory is responsible for a creative take on the humble Christmas tree in window nine. The collaboration with a selection of state’s leading craftspeople includes ceramic, glass, wood and metal elements.
For many, Christmas is synonymous with a lavish feast of traditional fare and fresh Australian alternatives. Peak through window ten to uncover the ultimate South Australian dinner table, laden with Haigh’s chocolate, Woodside Cheese, Riverland citrus fruits and Charlesworth Nuts.
Adelaide’s House Rules darlings, Jared Petrenko and Jess Dover are behind the stunning scene inside window eleven. Get some festive styling inspiration as the pair showcase their design flair.
Finally, deliver your Christmas wishes direct to the North Pole with the twelfth window. Pour your hopes and dreams into a letter to Santa and pop it into the wish box this festive season.
The windows are on display in Rundle Mall now and will remain until Friday 27 December
